The Liaison: My Role Between Clients and Craftsmen
Scroll
When I think about my role in building your custom home, I see myself as the essential connection between you and the trades who bring your vision to life. Cabinetry is a perfect example, as it passes through many skilled hands before it’s ready in your home. And I’ve got to tell you, each step involves a bit more than simply choosing a color swatch.
We start by sifting through a lot of stain samples together—it’s usually quite a process to find the shade that feels just right. This isn’t just a preference thing; I know how every undertone behaves when it’s been sealed or when the sun hits it. Once we’ve settled on a color, the real work begins: translating that choice into a finish that feels consistent.
That’s where my experience comes in. I prepare a custom mix and demonstrate the exact technique to the finisher. It’s not just about the formula; it’s how you apply it—whether it needs a heavy layer wiped off or if we’re going one layer or two. Then, there’s the task of getting those cabinets built, finished, and hung in exactly the way we envisioned.
Why does all of this matter? At every one of these handoffs, things can drift—not through carelessness, but because a name and a photograph carry less than you’d think. Colors can change across fabrication, and unless someone’s watching with a trained eye, it may not turn out as expected.
Having worked alongside these trades for years, they give me a heads-up on crucial stages like when they’re about to start grouting. It kind of works like a system of checks and balances. A lot of our clients are building from out of town and aren’t around to verify these steps themselves, so I’m here to ensure each decision follows through, even if a cabinet door needs adjustment on site.
What does the client experience instead? They get one person who knows every decision made, talking to everyone who’s set to carry it out. That continuity means they don’t have to worry about the small details or worry if something is off-track.
If you’re planning a home on Lake Texoma, I’d like to hear about it. There’s something so fulfilling about seeing it all—your choices, your vision—become a reality.
I'm Heather. I choose the colors, materials, and finishes for the custom homes Ceci Bates builds around Lake Texoma — inside and out. This is where those decisions get explained.
Working through selections, or just stuck on one decision? Send me a note — I read these myself.
Working through selections?
If you’re building with Ceci Bates, this is the part I take off your plate — the stone, the tile, the stain, the paint, and all the small decisions that have to agree with each other. Tell me what you’re working on and where you’ve got stuck. No pressure, just a conversation.
Tell me about your vision
