Making the Most of Your Visits During a Build
Scroll
Building a home from afar comes with its unique set of challenges, especially when visits to the site are few and far between. Whether you’re able to visit every few weeks or only manage to make the trip every couple of months, it’s important to make every visit count. Deciding in advance what these trips are for can ease a lot of the strain.
So, what really benefits from your presence? First, let’s talk about the slab yard. Stone selection is one of those things that truly benefits from being seen in person. A photograph can never capture the depth, color, and unique veining of a stone like standing in front of the actual piece. A visit to the slab yard offers that tactile experience and clarity that leads to confident decisions.
Then there’s the showroom day. When the time comes to bring your choices together, a three-hour session in a room with all the samples in hand can do wonders. It’s the moment when everything starts to come together, and it’s incredibly valuable to be there, touch, feel, and see each material side-by-side.
As for real rooms and real light, there’s a special moment when the house is coming together, the framework is set, and the natural light starts pouring in. This is the perfect opportunity to finalize paint choices, seeing how the light interacts with the colors you’ve considered. It’s a satisfying click in the journey from abstract to real.
What you don’t need to stress over are the routine checks or confirmations that installations match our choices. That’s my part, and I manage the day-to-day questions from the trades on your behalf. You can trust those parts to run smoothly without needing to be here.
On these trips, I’ll meet you at the house and help consolidate all those key decisions, which often work better when they’re grouped into one productive visit rather than spread thin over many.
Don’t feel that you have to be here more than you are. The goal is for your trips to cover the essential parts and be enjoyable, so you see the good in what’s growing.
If you’re planning a home on Lake Texoma, I’d love to hear what you have in mind. Come see how I think about color and materials. Let’s talk about your home and make the most of your visits together.
I'm Heather. I choose the colors, materials, and finishes for the custom homes Ceci Bates builds around Lake Texoma — inside and out. This is where those decisions get explained.
Working through selections, or just stuck on one decision? Send me a note — I read these myself.
Working through selections?
If you’re building with Ceci Bates, this is the part I take off your plate — the stone, the tile, the stain, the paint, and all the small decisions that have to agree with each other. Tell me what you’re working on and where you’ve got stuck. No pressure, just a conversation.
